Night House: a solo exhibition at Ardest Gallery, The Woodlands, Texas
Night House is a visual exploration of actual and imagined experiences of night. Some of the work comes from my own perspective as an individual, but others are from a more collective perspective, inclusive of the countless other species and life forms, both physical and spiritual, that we share this world with. Though houses, or the idea of home, have been a recurring theme in my work for the last several years, the idea of the Night House is a different thing. Night has a way of intensifying all of that for me. The air around me feels alive. Things that I see clearly in the daytime either fall away from my perception, or take on an air of mystery, danger even. Uninvited memories, some clear, others clouded, present themselves. Emotions that I have mostly ignored throughout the day, take their place in the forefront of my awareness. Night offers shelter and rest from our daily efforts, but if you are a night thinker, as I am, it brings a new kind of energy. That energy always seems to conjure the feeling that I am waiting for something. I often look out my windows at night and think about the planet that is my home and the beings I share it with. I hear the spirit voices of those who have passed from this physical world reminding me that life is short
